Accurate diagnosis for maximum safety
To reliably detect glaucoma, we rely on state-of-the-art examination methods:
Visual field examination: this test checks the function of the optic nerve and helps to recognize early limitations in the visual field.
Optic disc OCT (optical coherence tomography): with this high-resolution imaging procedure, we can accurately assess the structure of the optic nerve and retina to detect damage at an early stage.
Intraocular pressure measurement: Elevated intraocular pressure is a major factor in glaucoma. We closely monitor this indicator to treat changes in a timely manner.
Modern laser procedures for the treatment of glaucoma
In addition to medical and surgical treatments, we offer a variety of gentle laser procedures that are specifically tailored to meet the individual needs of our patients:
- SLT (selective laser trabeculoplasty): This method improves the outflow of aqueous moisture by selectively targeting the cells of the trabecular meshwork. The procedure is painless and gentle because only the pigment cells are affected and the surrounding tissue is not affected.
- YAG iridotomy: this technique is used particularly in narrow-angle glaucoma to create tiny holes in the iris using a laser. This improves aqueous outflow and reduces intraocular pressure.
- MicroCPC (micro-pulse cyclophotocoagulation): This innovative technique reduces intraocular pressure by gently targeting the tissues that produce aqueous fluid. Through the use of micro-pulses, the surrounding tissues are spared as much as possible, allowing for a quick recovery.
These laser procedures are minimally invasive, safe and can usually be performed on an outpatient basis. They are an effective alternative to traditional surgery or additional drug therapy.
