Retinal screening - early detection, long-term protection
The retina is the most important part of the eye, responsible for converting light into nerve impulses. Retinal diseases can lead to severe visual impairment or even blindness. Many retinal diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) or retinopathies, do not cause any noticeable symptoms at first. Therefore, it is especially important to examine the retina regularly to recognize and treat changes at an early stage.
Regular retinal exams are crucial for early detection of eye disease. It is especially important for people with diabetes, high blood pressure, family history, or over the age of 50 to have regular retinal examinations. Early retinal changes can be detected and treated in time before permanent damage occurs.
Our retinal examination in detail:
At our clinic, we offer accurate and comprehensive retinal examinations using state-of-the-art technology to monitor your vision health.
- Wide-angle retinal photography With wide-angle retinal photography, we can capture almost the entire back surface of the eye in a single image. This method allows us to recognize and record changes in the entire area of the eye, such as diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy caused by high blood pressure, or the appearance of new blood vessels in macular degeneration. Early detection is critical to initiate proper treatment.
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) OCT is one of the most advanced and accurate methods to visualize the structure of the retina and macula (central retinal area) in high resolution detail. Especially in cases of macular degeneration or macular edema, OCT helps to detect changes in the retina at an early stage that are not yet perceptible to the patient. This technology allows us to analyze the retinal layers in real time and make an accurate diagnosis.
- Myopia and retinal diseases People with myopia (nearsightedness) have an increased risk of developing retinal diseases such as retinal detachment, myopic macular degeneration or retinal deterioration.
- Macular degeneration or retinal vascular deterioration. Therefore, it is especially important that patients with high myopia have their retinas examined regularly to recognize possible changes at an early stage.Частота проведения скрининга сетчатки
Frequency of retinal screening
- Age 50 and older: we recommend retinal screening exams every 2 years, especially for patients at risk or with a family history of retinal disease.
- With diabetes or high blood pressure: these patient groups should have regular annual retinal screening exams to prevent early development of diabetic retinopathy or retinal damage from high blood pressure.
- For familial retinal diseases: If retinal diseases are known to be inherited, you should have regular retinal screenings as recommended by your doctor, as your risk of developing such diseases may be increased.
How can you protect yourself from retinal diseases?
In addition to regular checkups, it is important to monitor your overall health to prevent retinal diseases. A balanced diet, regular exercise, and controlling high blood pressure and blood sugar are important preventative measures.
